Independence Talent Show

Our annual Independence Talent Show is a fun time for the whole Independence community. It gives a chance for students (& and sometimes Moms & Dads too!) to show their talents as singers, dancers, actors, musicians, or whatever artistic talent they want to show off ! This year’s show will be Mon. Apr. 21 & Wed. Apr. 23, both shows begin at 7 pm, in the gym at Independence.

Here are the guidelines for participating in our Talent Show:

1. All acts must come to one of the practice sessions. Everyone who comes to a practice session will be in the show, provided their act follows the guidelines. Our Talent Show is not a competition. The purpose of the tryouts is to give students a chance to work with the stage area, microphones, keyboard, etc., and to get helpful feedback on their act from Mr. McDade and other Talent Show helpers. Acts are also screened for the appropriateness of song lyrics, etc. (see # 4 below).

2. Students may only perform in ONE ACT in the Talent Show. This is to accommodate all the students who wish to perform, and to avoid the show lasting past 8:30 pm, since both evenings of the Talent Show are on school nights.

3. You may perform with your friends, with members of your family, or with other people connected to the Independence Elementary community (parents & teachers are allowed!).

4. Please no songs, lyrics, dance movements, costumes, etc. that are inappropriate or suggestive - decisions on the appropriateness of acts are at the discretion of the sponsors. If students will be wearing costumes for their performance, they need to wear their costume for their tryout.

5. Accompaniment cannot be provided by your music teachers unless arranged ahead of time. An accompaniment on tape or CD supplied by performers is fine.A good quality keyboard will be available. Please bring to your tryout all materials your act will need.

6. The Talent Show is designed to show off our students' artistic talent in the areas of music, dance, acting, etc. Acts that are demonstrations of sports skills are not encouraged, with the exception of gymnastics, as gymnastics has many artistic elements such as connections to dance (mats for gymnastics routines are available). If you have questions about this guideline, please contact Mr. McDade before the day of the tryouts.
